All worn out

Stacy took this picture of Shelby at the gym yesterday afternoon.  Poor baby!  He was up late partying with friends for the 4th of July.  He had to be up early to get to school.  He's now in the afterschool care program at Joe Michell where he'll start kindergaren August 22nd.  Since it's summer and the program has a mix of K-8th grade, there's no napping during the day.
On top of that....Thursdays are "club day".  In the morning the kids can do the "run club" and earn charms in the shape of a foot for a necklace they get to keep adding to.  You earn a charm for doing 4 laps.  Shelby did 13 laps and came home with 4 whole charms yesterday (guess a partial still gets you the present).  He said last night, "Mommy, my side hurt really bad while I was running, but I just pushed on it like this and kept going!"

The rest of the story....this morning I aksed the program director about these clubs.  She said they encourage run club in the morning and then they get to pick a different club in the afternoon.  Shelby chose cook club yesterday and made pumpkin muffins.  Yum!
However, the director wasn't outside during run club and the other teacher was standing there when I was asking my questions.  I asked about the 13 laps and how far that means he went.  The director said it's marked off like a track so that 4 laps is equal to a mile.  She said he couldn't have gone 13 laps!  The other teacher stepped in and said, actually he did!  The director's eyes were huge!  She informed the other teacher (Mr. D) that they are to cap the kids at 2 miles!!!!  Shelby ran over 3 miles yesterday!!!!  No wonder his side hurt!  And no wonder the poor thing was sound asleep at the gym.
