I know this may seem less eventful to some, but being there, this was the most precious interaction, and I had to have it captured for my own memory's sake. Little Stacy was watching Shelby play with the croquet set. Shelby recognized he was being watched and offered "Baby Stacy" a ball. When Stacy threw the turquoise ball on the ground, Shelby bent down and handed him the blue one.
After Shelby dodged the blue one, he decided it was safer to stand and hand over the balls.
What happened next was the best. Shelby was frustrated that Stacy didn't find any of them acceptable (Shelby's assumption from Stacy throwing all of them out). So, he said, "Stacy, what's your favorite color?" Of course, no answer. So, I suggested that since Stacy couldn't talk yet, maybe Shelby should line up all the balls and see which one he picks as his favorite.Great! Turquoise! We have a favorite...till he handed it back. Okay, let's try again.
Pink! Really? Handed that one back too. Shelby was getting a little frustrated at the lack of commitment to a color. "Do you like red? See, red! On your shirt. That's my favorite." Shelby's had red as a standing fav for some time now.
Okay, really? Red and Black! Oh no!!!! No red and black (Texas Tech) combo in this family, kid. After this, Shelby turned to me and made some comment to the nature of, "I don't think he has a favorite color, Mama." And the game was over.
